Last night I watched a documentary on the photographer, Sally Mann. It was really good; insightful and touching. She has the most beautiful hands and gestures, the way artist women move when they have spent years working the land. Today I sewed a dress from some of the material we had bought a hundred years ago at the one day sale thing in Manchester, remember? I figured I should just go for it, rather than hoarding things forever. When I was laying out the pieces, I noticed they told you how much ease was designed in to the dress, and it seemed like a lot, so I cut out a much smaller size (size 4) than I would have going by the envelope standards (size 10-14). I was really nervous today that the arm holes were going to be too tight, but Ron pointed out that I could leave off the sleeves and make the armholes bigger. I kept telling myself, One More Half Hour, then out to the studio, but then I also told myself, I Just Want To See If This Next Part Works, and before you know it, I hadn't gone to the studio but I FINISHED AN ENTIRE DRESS EVEN THE HEM and could wear it to stitch n bitch tonight. It's a tent dress ("maternity" my friend Chelsea called it), so it was much more forgiving than a shift. WHATEVER, IT'S SUPER CUTE. I think it fits pretty damn perfect. Pictures tomorrow. Then I went to SnB, and man, we talked about everything girlie humanly possible: periods, boobs, injuries you can get from being a stripper, you name it. It was a lot of fun, although I did have to tink back a row of that mohair, which almost killed me.

Hope you're having fun being girlie with aunt karen.
Love,
Ruth

Dear Ruth,
I loved hearing about your sewing adventure, and am eager to see the pics tomorrow.
K says the smudge on my computer screen was where she licked Tucker's face. She is missing Sable so much she is into picking up stray dogs ( at Whispering Hill Antiques yesterday) and loving on them for awhile. The stray didn't seem to mind.
The SnB at library is really going to happen! Tuesdays from 1-3, and 7 ladies have signed up. I called them all quickly tonight to tell them the time and day, and we start the 13th.
It's late--we watched Gray's Anatomy. I finally sold another book on Amazon after a long dry stretch and had to wrap it up, and do bills while K was showering first, because dad is worrying about me not doing my regular stuff. I just didn't want to have him mention it again in the morning.
K and I went to Webs and spent money, and I think that was a good thing to do since when we got home the library called and gave me the list of women to call. A thread of karma going on there.
We are having a great visit, non stop good time. We've talked about everything except periods, boobs, and injuries of strippers. What exactly would those be? Pole splinters?
K is impressed that you would unravel a whole sweater to knit me the blue egg. She was warmer tonight because she put long johns on, and wool socks. A requirement for winter in our house.
Got yummy yarn at Webs. Wish you had been with us. We ate lunch at a fresh pasta place and K had sweet potato ravioli that she mmmmm-mmmmed for the whole meal. We later found Bela's on the walk back to the car. It was not where we had been looking earlier. I half expected to run into Linda or Diane, but we didn't.
Bedtime...tomorrow we eat lunch with Chris, Sat with Barb, and Sunday go to Nema's. This is the fastest pace I've had since her last visit. She is learning yarn overs. Has only had to frog the entire piece once.
Love, mom
