Dear Mom,
Well, I finished both sleeves of the uber-bulky sweater, got the collar picked up and a round knit, but I had to rip it out because I need to adjust the stitch count so the ribbing works. The only thing going for this sweater is its immense warmth. I have a little issue with the actual fabric--the gauge is correct, but the stitches aren't very tight, so there are areas of the sweater that pull and you see the guts of the stitches. Maybe it'll be cuter once the collar is on. Or maybe it'll look better once it's blocked. Maybe the yarn fluffs up; sometimes that happens. I guess that's it for now. We rescheduled Stitch n Bitch from tonight to tomorrow night, so I can show you progress on the two current projects soon.
Love,
Ruth

Dear Ruth,
Blocking will work wonders on the uneven stitches, sort of a robbing from peter to pay paul effect. It will probably take care of that issue just fine. Congratulations for jumping in and almost finishing the uber.
I'm getting there with the entrelac tote. I'll send pics soon. I was lacking one patch ( a dangle effect off top of bag) so I knitted it up last night and felted it by itself, but it isn't felted up as small as the others so I am going to try felting more, which means it will be too wet to finish today..
Tons of rain, trees are icy-- and none of the snow seems to be melting at all. A day for staying put, I think.
There is a purple finch sitting on the cross beam of the little porch, singing its heart out. It's the male, and finally, here is the female... he did a good job convincing her to come have a look, tho she is sporting wet feathers and doesn't seem too impressed. I'm sure the first thing she noticed was the wood pile, and the 2x4 brace across the top where the cats like to sit, and how close to the beam that is. She is carefully preening and getting the water out of all her feathers, while the male is still chattering at her. His enthusiasm doesn't seem to be catching, but I am enjoying his song.
Love, mom
