Dear Mom,
Even the stalagmites 'round here are made of ice and snow.

Dear Ruth,

oh wow---- cool. very cool. Did you have to look up whether those were stalagmites or stalagtites or did you remember that off the top of your smarty pants head? xoxoxo

Dear Mom,
I remembered it from my smarty pants head, but I do not know if I remembered it correctly. :)

Dear Ruth,

Funny thing was, I woke up this morning and thought " staligtights or stalagtites?" Completely unsure of spelling..so I looked it up. I wasn't even close.

stalactite--hanging like an icicle

stalagmite-- like a stalactite but standing like a pillar on the floor of a cave

Your smarty pants head hit the nail again. But more to the point, the photo was great.

Dear Mom,
The Way I had remembered it is the 'tites hold on tight to the ceiling. You don't have to hold on tight to the ground.

Dear Ruth,

I tried to remember that rule this morning, but the one I had used was the mite instead of the tite--- the mighty stand up.---I think that's how I used to think of it. But it's been so long since I thought of them that I couldn't even spell them right without the dictionary! I forgot that part about the lac, as in stalactites.
