Dear Mom,
Have you been to a Michael's store lately? You know how Martha Stewart now has a line of crafting supplies there? Well, Ron and I went to Rochester yesterday to get supplies, and I needed ribbon for a shirt I'm sewing (need to learn to read the small print on the pattern) in a color I didn't have laying around. We were in a plaza with a Michael's, so I went in there. If I didn't have Ron with me, I would have spent a lot longer poking around every little thing. There is so much neat stuff! First of all, there are all sorts of ribbons in pleasing, CONTEMPORARY colors, unavailable in the regular ribbon area. And so many cool sticker and label type things, and all the packages have holes punched in the bottom part so you can store all the different things you get in a ring binder. It's so silly, but there were a billion colors of glitter. Really beautiful colors. What can I put glitter on? (I didn't buy any, but if I could figure out what needs sparkling, just watch out.) And the prices weren't too high at all. Surprise, surprise.
Unfortunately, I felt kind of weird yesterday. Don't know why, could even be the storm moving in (which still isn't here). But it kind of took the fun out of eating out. But I'm fine, so not to worry. When you come visit, we can go up and eat at the Indian restaurant we had dinner at. It's really, really good. And Ron will come too, because it's right down the street from Beers of the World, the biggest beer store ever.
Love,
Ruth

Dear Ruth,
I had seen a Martha show last month where they featured all her new line for Michael's. It was really impressive, as she had set up her studio as if it were a studio filled with those products. She had a whole bookshelf section devoted to glitter! All I could think of was how that whole room would look if you were in the middle of a project and messed up the perfect symmetry of that wall of stored items. It made you not want to mess one thing up. Maybe you could have a second room where you would actually have the items you could grab and use! It was a crafter's work of art, that storage wall.
I'll make a trip to Michael's soon and think of you.
I have tried to stay away from glitter since surviving the craft stage of 5 year olds. That glitter lingered on everything it touched with fierce static cling, until the art work was picked up, at which point it became unmagnetized and flew all over floor, walls, clothing, hair. I never knew a perfectly glued down bunch of glitter.
Excited about the new ribbon colors, tho. Thanks for the shopping tip!
Sure wish you could find the solution for the ride on mower we need to replace. Am trying to research what is out there---it's been about 25 years since I looked at models. I think we will probably go to the local place and buy whatever they have, because the grass is getting out of control.... and we also need a new push mower. It seems dad and I can't manage one without self-propelling after all.
Hope you feel more chipper today.
Love, mom
