Dear Mom,
One wool sweater from Salvation Army for 4.99:

A little bit of snipping, a bit of winding, and then everybody into the pool:

Hang it out to dry, and you've got a pretty sweet load of yarn.

Love,
Ruth

Dear Ruth,

Enough to knit that skirt/dress? Great color. What are your plans for it? It looks yummy, for sure. You did a great job on the reclaiming!!!!!

The yarn looks handspun.

I believe this ranks right up there with saving veggie water. Granny Bea would be thrilled.

Dear Mom,
The estimating amount is the tricky part with recycled yarn. The sweater was an xl, and I think it is around worsted weight, so I'm sure I can use it for something good. And I bet I could knit the skirt/dress shorter if I needed to.

Ruth

Dear Ruth,

The estimating of yardage gives me the cold rag on forehead syndrome. Then I have to lie down.

I think you can and will work wonders with this yarn, as your math brain works fine, you can memorize complicated pattern sequences, and quite frankly, you can knit anything.... barnicles, pods, skirts.

Acetabularia, anyone?
