Dear Mom,
This week's theme is Pink.

My Monkey Vine from Jennifer is finally finally blooming, and the Night Blooming Cereus is working on flower #3. It would be nice to see this one open; we've missed the others--they only open once, and they do it at night. Even so, they're cool looking as buds.
Love,
ruth

Dear Ruth,

Those ARE cool buds. Isn't it amazing how many forms nature can come up with? Just when you think you've seen them all, the Night Blooming Cereus comes along.

I'm sure deep sea divers feel the same way--- when they hit those heat vents deep in the ocean, and forms emerge from the gloom, transparent and pale. And they can't bring those life forms up unless they keep them in a pressure tank because they would explode in normally weighted water. A whole universe down there, living out full lives while we are unaware of their existence.

Like when the dandelions in the front lawn were going through their many changes this spring.... and we were inside, sleeping.

Trying to see the miraculous stuff occuring around us all the time is right up there with trying to count the stars.

It's good to keep trying.

Love, mom
