Yesterday after work I went to the paper studio to have a felting afternoon with angie and dallas. (We used the paper studio because there are huge "sinks"--like 4' x 8'--for papermaking.) My piece didn't shrink as much as we expected, but that's okay. I made this huge cowl; it's one big tube, made that way because of a piece of plastic in the middle acted as a resist. It was pretty fun. You can wear it a whole myriad of ways, some sillier than others. This is one of the Not Silly ways:

Dear Ruth,
I can't figure out what shape that is--- hollow where? It looks dashing and daring, a big fun fiber shape. Makes you want to touch it to see if it is thin or thick.
What a fun way to felt--big sinks and good friends.
Dad's button rocks.
You look pretty rockin' yourself, punk girl.
Send more pictures.

Dear Ruth,
ps. what yarn is that?

Dear Mom,
It's made from merino roving. And yeah, it's just a tube. A super wide tube. I thought that was a good use of the button, too.

Ruth
Dear Ruth,
So you didn't knit it at all, just used the roving straight and put it around a piece of plastic to get a tube shape? It's been a long time since I took the felting class from Beth Beede, but I remember putting roving around a rubber ball.
I love your scarf, and it looks great with dad's button. I'm going to send it over to his machine for a surprise.
Love, mom
