Dear Mom, I went outside this morning to get the mail, and what greeted me on the front step?
That's right. The Vegetable Fairy visited and left us ten ears of corn. I have no idea who did it! Talk about Southern Hospitality. Love, Ruth

Dear Ruth,
What a lovely gesture! Those southerners!
Up here, people lock their car doors so the zuccini fairies won't leave bags of zuccini's in their cars while they are in shopping. Irene told me that's the only thing she worries about when she leaves all her windows open and her car unlocked.
At Ashford knitting today, a young girl came in with a yellow squash in a tiny bag that she was holding sort of like a wine bottle from a package store--- asking if anyone wanted it? and of course I admitted that I grew them too, and didn't have the heart to say " but my chickens would love it!" because I felt she would not want her squash to go to feed chickens. I hope it found a taker, because only Anne and I were at group today, and she grows yellow squash too.
Anyway, I love it that there is someone near you who is giving you their garden corn. I hope it was delicious.
Tho I have been open-mindedly looking at your southern hospitality corn now for 23 days, I must confess that I each day I feel less delighted over southern hospitality and more and more disappointed that something different doesn't turn up.
Could you remedy this? Surely Tucker or Jack could smile for the camera? One with Tucker's hair sticking straight up would make me smile for sure.
I would even be delighted with a picture of Ron doing a silly dance.
Love, mom
ps This is not anything like the complaint of one of dad's readers for his recent edition--- which ran something like " could you change the image on page 245? Tho the artist is famous and deserves to be in the book, I'm just really tired of that image."
